****Actually…. a cappuccino has chocolate on top.
This would be a flat white. ***
^This is actually incorrect^
Based off your answer I am going to assume you are from Australia or some place that has taken on the Australian way of making a cappuccino. Australia has become accustom to putting chocolate on top of their cappuccino for some reason, taste and show perhaps, maybe you could tell me :) Australia is also the place that created the “Flat White”, which is the similar to the original cappuccino but with dry milk instead of micro-foam.
A cappuccino doesn’t have to have chocolate on top. It is not required and isn’t part of the traditional cappuccino at all. The way the milk is steamed to create the micro-foam and the temperature of the drink is what makes it a cappuccino.
You can most certainly add cocoa powder, shaved chocolate, chocolate&espresso sauce for etching, raw sugar, cinnamon or other various spices sprinkled on top for show and to add taste, but these are not required to make the drink a cappuccino.
