ESPRESSO

I cringe when I hear people say “EX-presso”, it’s just as bad as people saying “can I AXE you a question”. It’s even worse when I’m scrolling through facebook and see it typed in someone’s status as “expresso…from starbucks”.

Oh goodness.

My training and job may have turned me into a coffee snob, but this isn’t even that, it’s pronunciation and spelling, man.

COME ON.

****Actually…. a cappuccino has chocolate on top. This would be a flat white. ***

^This is actually incorrect^
Based off your answer I am going to assume you are from Australia or some place that has taken on the Australian way of making a cappuccino. Australia has become accustom to putting chocolate on top of their cappuccino for some reason, taste and show perhaps, maybe you could tell me :) Australia is also the place that created the “Flat White”, which is the similar to the original cappuccino but with dry milk instead of micro-foam.
A cappuccino doesn’t have to have chocolate on top. It is not required and isn’t part of the traditional cappuccino at all. The way the milk is steamed to create the micro-foam and the temperature of the drink is what makes it a cappuccino.
You can most certainly add cocoa powder, shaved chocolate, chocolate&espresso sauce for etching, raw sugar, cinnamon or other various spices sprinkled on top for show and to add taste, but these are not required to make the drink a cappuccino.
Coffee talk and some knowledge coming at you all! I love my job and I take my coffee knowledge quite seriously.

Today I was told that my cappuccino was better than any of the one’s this older italian woman has ever had in Italy.

I legitimately thought I was going to cry when she told me this. I was so proud of how far I’ve come as a barista and how much I love this industry and the cultures that are involved.

She asked me where I learned to make my cappuccinos. Thank you so much Jay Caragay and Bonnie Hohman, you two have been the biggest and most respected barista mentors in my life. I’m so grateful to have worked under someone who has such a huge influence and part in the barista community (Jay).

Ugh, that seriously made my day.

So this is my first attempt at Kermit the frog. It turned out alright. I think I need to work on the shape of his face a little, but other than that, he’s adorable and I love him :)
I wish my customers would enjoy their drinks in the cafe more than running with them so I could top all of their drinks with adorable muppets, animals and rosettas :)

Making a macchiato when I get to work tomorrow. I’ve been working so hard lately, I deserve a special treat.
Plus, you know I’ll pour a pretty rosetta on top :)
